Report: EU Likely to Fine Google This Summer

Citing “two people familiar with the matter,” Reuters is reporting that the European Commission (EC) will impose fines on Google by August. The EU antitrust agency has been investigating Google for more than seven years on charges that the search engine favored its own shopping service in its search results. Under European law, the total fine could be around $9 billion.

Neither the EC or Google commented on the story.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission settled a similar case with Google in 2013, but the EC has been unwilling to agree to a similar settlement.
