This week appMobi announced the release of its web app packaging tool for the Google Chrome Web Store. The appMobi Chrome App Packager, as it’s called, allows web developers to create and “package” web apps and browser extensions so they can be submitted to the Google Chrome Web Store.
The appMobi Chrome App Packager comes with the appMobi’s XDK, and provides HTML5 app developers with the ability to create apps for several mobile app stores, including the Apple App Store, Android Market and now the Chrome Web Store, using one HTML5 code base that works across all platforms.
Sam Abadir, CTO of appMobi, discussed the release, stating that “The appMobi Chrome App Packager fills a very specific need in the Chrome marketplace. It’s a tool that we created initially for our own use, and then we realized that everyone in the HTML5 development world could benefit from it. It can be used to package both hosted and non-hosted apps. By using the appMobi Chrome App Packager, developers also gain access to appMobi’s cloud services like push messaging and in-app purchasing, which are otherwise unavailable to Web apps and browser plugins.”
