Microsoft Browsers to Ban SHA-1 Certificates

On Tuesday, Microsoft released updates for its Internet Explorer and Edge browsers, and the new versions flag as insecure any websites using SSL/TLS certificates signed with the SHA-1 hashing function. Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox had already put similar measures in place.

Since 2005, security experts have known that SHA-1 technology is vulnerable to attacks. The browser makers have been urging websites to move away from SHA-1.
