It appears that bots may be posting thousands of comments opposing net neutrality on the Federal Communications Commission website. The comment section of the website now includes more than 128,000 posts with identical text asking the agency to roll back the Obama administration’s “power grab.” On the other side, there are also 18,000 identical comments speaking in favor of net neutrality.
In his television show, comedian John Oliver urged people to submit comments to the FCC, and since then the agency has received more than 700,000 new posts. In fact, the volume of comments has at times overwhelmed the FCC’s IT systems, making it impossible for people to submit new comments. The FCC has also said that it is the victim of a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack.
