Google in Beta Phase with WebGL 3D graphics API for JavaScript

Google’s WebGL 3D graphics API for JavaScript provides hardware-accelerated graphics without more software, and has moved into the beta phase of the latest version of its software.

WebGL, based on the OpenGL ES 2.0 API for embedded, accelerated 3D graphics, is the first to bring hardware-accelerated 3D graphics to the browser without adding more software, according to the announcement from Google. “WebGL is a 3D graphics API for JavaScript that developers can use to create fully 3D Web apps.”

Kenneth Russell, from the Google Chromium Team, stated in a recent blog that “Google, Mozilla, Apple, Opera, and graphics hardware vendors have been working together to standardize WebGL for over a year now, and since the spec is just about final at this point, we wanted to get our implementation out there for feedback.”
