Apple Explains Ban on Flash for iDevices

This week Apple’s Steve Jobs justified his company’s position on why they do not support Flash on its mobile devices. Although his reasons may have some merit, what it seems to come down to is control.

Jobs essentially stated that Flash is not suitable for its iPhone, iPad and iPod platforms, as it’s not secure, reliable, performance or touch-worthy enough for Apple’s mobile products.

He stated that he believes that Adobe’s technology is closed, while Apple’s is open, announcing that “Adobe claims that we are a closed system, and that Flash is open, but in fact the opposite is true. Adobe’s Flash products are 100% proprietary. Rather than use Flash, Apple has adopted HTML5, CSS and JavaScript – all open standards.”
