Although some, such as Apple’s Steve Jobs, may believe that Flash has seen its better days, Flash technology still plays a large role in the online advertising world. According to stats from comScore, 40% of all online display ads use Flash and rich media.
Some industry pundits feel that the balance of power is going to soon turn in favor of other technologies such as HTML 5. This is occurring because of the increasing popularity of iPhones and iPads.
The discussion and adoption of HTML 5 by companies such as Google, YouTube and the adult entertainment industry is encouraging to web developers. The influence by Apple can’t hurt, and even Adobe is adding HTML 5 support in some of its products. With advertisers having to create multiple formats for their ads to support multiple devices, standardization would have a positive impact…but is it going to ever happen?
