Adobe today announced support for HTML5 in Dreamweaver CS5, the latest version of its HTML authoring tool for website design. Provided as a free extension, the Adobe HTML5 Pack provides more options to web developers, allowing them to create, deliver and optimize content for diverse desktop and mobile platforms.
Available now in a free download at Adobe Labs, the new HTML5 extension includes many new features, including:
- HTML5 “starter layouts” which enable developers to utilize the latest in emerging web standards
- “Code hinting” for HTML5 and CSS3 tags
- WebKit engine updates and improvements specifically for video and audio in Dreamweaver CS5’s Live View
Adobe announced the new HTML5 extension at the Google I/O 2010 conference in San Francisco. They credit the HTML5 support to customer feedback received since they first previewed the technology at their own Adobe MAX 2009 conference. “Adobe prides itself on delivering industry-defining tools and being compatible with the most popular Web programming languages, formats, APIs and libraries,” commented Adobe’s Lea Hickman, Senior Director of Creative Solutions.
