If you believe what the CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt, says about the future of web application development, HTML5 may soon be the core of app development.
The HTML5 standard, which will be formalized in 2014 according to a recent announcement from the W3C, will likely become the standard for the creation of web applications for both mobile and desktop platforms.
In a keynote speech at the Mobile World Congress, Schmidt said that "It looks to me like HTML5 will eventually become a way almost all applications are built, including those on new phones. There are some features missing but it's getting there."
