HTML 5 and Flash Come Together at Web 2.0 Expo

While Apple may not have too many kind words for Adobe these days, Adobe's Flash is beginning to converge with HTML 5 in both functionality and developer support. This, according to a designer who spoke at the Web 2.0 Expo in New York City yesterday.

Eric Meyer, founder of Cleveland-based Complex Spiral Consulting, said that both Flash and HTML 5 aim to bring ubiquitous interactivity to websites. Speaking about the apparent war between Adobe and Apple, he stated that "It feels like a cold war, but they're really not that different."

Although Flash may not be as stable as HTML 5, it's currently a richer development environment for interactive apps, Meyer believes. He also feels that it's rapidly changing, stating that "the Web stack [HTML 5, JavaScript and CSS] is progressing much faster than Flash did ten years ago."
