Google Developer Tools Encourage Enterprise Web Application Development

Google's GWT 2.1 Widget libraries, announced at Google I/O this week, enable developers to create apps which work for both the desktop and the mobile environment with just a few tweaks. With this move, mobile application development just got a boost, and Google hopes to see more developers making the move to enterprise development.

The search engine giant demonstrated Expense Reports, a web application which enters the cost of dinner, adds time and date, categorizes and updates the company's database. Even through a slow Wi-Fi connection the app was updated quickly on both ends.

Through the use of web standards such as HTML 5 and cloud-based services, Google promised flexibility and faster deployment across devices. The Google Apps Engine could potentially attract web developers who are weary of device-based development projects.
