Kentico Content Management System 5.0 for .NET Targets Enterprise Websites

Kentico recently released its Content Management System (CMS) 5 with plenty of features targetted to enterprise developers. Designed to accommodate 1,000,000 users and 100,000 documents, this release also enables SQL server replication, something that enterprise developers have requested for a long time.

What this means is that a site’s database can now be replicated and run over multiple servers which is a huge performance factor. Additionally, administrators can change the look and feel for specific user roles, which enables them to target multiple user bases and simplify the site for users who do not require additional functionality.

Kentico CMS 5.0 is not an open source package, and retails for $1999 up, with additional addons such as their E-commerce package, social networking package, source code, server site licenses and other options adding more to the total package costs. The software requires the developer to be running ASP.NET 2.o or higher, Microsoft SQM Server 2005 or 2008, and Microsoft IIS web server.

New features in this release include a Widgets module which enables editors, group administrators and site visitors to personalize specific parts of the page, a new admin interface, a larger media size limit, the abilty to add HD YouTube videos, built-in URL rewriting functionality for SEO enhancement, and over 100 bug fixes.

In addition, localization packs are available for Czech, French, Greek, Slovak and Spanish languages, which allows users to view the site in their own native tongue.

While there are plenty of other good .NET CMSes available, including software such as sitefinity’s CMS 3.7 and Edentity Web System’s Agility SaaS CMS, the Kentico CMS has an impressive feature list, unlimited technical support, and so far, positive feedback from the developer community.
