The Wholesale Applications Community was recently formed by the largest telecom companies, and includes AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG Electronics and 21 other telecoms. Their goal: helping developers design applications that work on multiple platforms.
The concern is that, if the newly-formed Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) can’t come through with its promise of an open platform that will enable developers to write applications for all devices, then it will just result in a more congested atmosphere in the mobile arena.
The press release from the WAC focused on the Open Mobile Terminal Platform forum’s BONDI interface/security standardization initiative from 2008, stating that it would be a good place to start. They also announced their intent to use Java Intermediate Language (JIL) within the new framework.
