Six Months After Google Panda, Developers Still Scratching Their Heads

This week marks the six month anniversary of Google’s Panda search engine algorithm update, and developers are still scratching their heads, not quite sure which SEO practices to follow. Although some have decreed that SEO doesn’t work any longer, it still works, but the SEO that worked in 2000 just won’t cut it today.

Now that search is critical, and is used for both mobile and desktop searches, the consequences of not using effective SEO is crucial to the success of a business. The Panda update was created to “designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites–sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites–sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on,” according to Google on the day of its release.
 
After the update, many well-respected websites saw their traffic drop by huge numbers. Some have bounced back, but others are still working to regain the traffic they lost. Effective SEO is the key.
