Mozilla, the organization behind the Firefox browser, has announced that it is giving away $539,000 in grants to organizations focused on open source development related to the Web. The biggest grant, $194,000, went to Ushahidi, a platform for collecting and disseminating information in emergency situations. Other grants included the following:
- $125,000 to Webpack, a JavaScript module loader for WebAssembly
- $100,000 to RiseUp, which offers secure Web-based communications tools for activists
- $70,000 to mod_md, a tool for simplifying HTTPS deployment
- $50,000 to Phaser, an HTML5 game engine
