Mobile developers have a vast assortment of app platforms to choose from, and thus far Apple still leads the way. That may change however, with RIM losing and Google Android gaining market share.
Apple currently holds around 25 percent of the market. If these trends continue over the next two quarters, Android will be getting close to a 37 percent market share, RIM at 29 percent, and Apple trailing at a meager 26 percent.
The Android market has continued to grow, with a 6.5 percent increase in the last quarter. The low cost of Android devices, combined with the desire of many users who still want a keyboard on their mobile devices, may be a factor that RIM should be paying attention to.
