Just Exactly What Is Mobile SEO?

Nov 5, 2010

As many businesses delve into the mobile marketplace, the question of mobile search engine optimization (SEO) is becoming more important. Some would ask how mobile SEO differs from traditional SEO practices, and if it merits a separate SEO campaign.

In a recent post on ClickZ, Michael Marten stated that mobile search engine optimization is a combination of creating sites which appear in mobile search engines as well as different handheld devices. Location-based results are also becoming more important to mobile search, he noted.

Creating sites which are able to be displayed on different devices also counts, as mobile search engines take that into account when raking sites. According to Martin, “Mobile SEO should be a matter of increasing visibility of your website, not only in mobile search engines but on the actual mobile and often touch-enabled devices themselves.”
