JavaScript Developers Upset by HTML 5 Proclamations

JavaScript developers are upset at the statements coming out about HTML 5, saying that they are “unhinged from reality”. They believe the term “HTML 5” is being used as a buzzword, similar to the way that “AJAX” and “Web 2.0” have been misused.

Developers are concerned that people are confusing the core HTML 5 specification with a whole family of related web technologies, such as graphics, video and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) 3. Job postings are starting to appear which require “HTML 5 experience”, and people are using examples which showcase JavaScript animations and CSS 3 effects as proof of their “HTML 5 expertise”.

The HTML 5 core is actually less interesting, pretty much invisible to web surfers. It does include a new content model, more accessibility features and browsing contexts which make the HTML code itself cleaner, and more easily read by humans.
