Google Labs Closing Down As Google Narrows Focus

In an effort to narrow its focus, Google is shutting down its Google Labs division, which was one of the top places to look for the latest innovations from Google’s developer team. As Google+ approaches its 20 millionth member, the move is not surprising to many in the industry, but still disappoints many developers.

Google’s SVP of Research and Systems Infrastructure, Bill Coughran, discussed the closure, stating that “Last week we explained that we’re prioritizing our product efforts. As part of that process, we’ve decided to wind down Google Labs. While we’ve learned a huge amount by launching very early prototypes in Labs, we believe that greater focus is crucial if we’re to make the most of the extraordinary opportunities ahead.”
