Apple’s open source WebKit web browser engine, or as it’s more commonly known, web browser platform, is the predominant web browsing platform for mobile web browsers. Although some people don’t know about it, WebKit powers the Safari mobile web browser on the iPhone and iPad.
The WebKit Wiki provides web developers with documentation, frequently asked questions, ports, debugging information and details about the WebKit source code. Also included is Web Inspector, which allows developers to view a page’s source, live DOM hierarchy, script debugging, profiling and more.
Apple is often perceived as being the opposite of open source, while the WebKit proves that they are willing to give back to the community while they lead the way in the mobile web browser war.
