Native Apps and HTML5 Apps The Solution for Box.net

While many developers are still working out the debate of whether to create native or HTML5-based applications, Box.net moved forward by building both. Along with an update to its Android app and a new BlackBerry app, Box.net announced the release of a new HTML5-based app this week.

HTML5-based applications offer many of the same benefits of native applications, along with a bit more control over the appearance and usability of the application, as well as additional ways of distributing and selling the applications.

The benefits of HTML5 come with some drawbacks, including a lack of support fot some of the core features of HTML5 by some mobile (and desktop) browsers. The Apple Safari and Google Chrome browsers support the Box.net HTML5 app, but it’s currently limited to mobile devices.
