Google is reportedly testing a new version of its mobile search app that consumes less data. The app may be called Search Lite or Search (Test App), and it appears to be targeted at the Indonesian and/or Indian markets.
The app's settings allow users to choose to see only lite Web pages in their search results. It also includes a lite browser that users can use as their default browser.
It's unclear how the lite version of the app will affect web SEO efforts, but it is likely to benefit lightweight websites. It is possible the app could eventually roll out worldwide.
