Are App Developers Moving To Windows Phone 7?

Nov 28, 2010

Over 15,000 developers are creating apps for Microsoft Windows Phone 7, with an 80 percent increase in signing up to develop for the OS. That said, with only 3000 apps currently available for Windows 7, Microsoft still has a lot of catching up to do.

Apple’s App Store currently has over 300,000 apps, and even Android has approximately 100,000 apps. Where Microsoft leads is the number of developers it currently has for the xBox gaming console, as well as the ability to port Microsoft Office apps to Windows Phone 7.

A recent report by Visionmobile found that developers tend to select a development platform based on how large the potential market is for their apps, as well as the future potential of the OS to deliver revenue. Other factors included the ability to prototype apps and code quickly.
