Popular Search Phrases Often Detrimental to SEO Success

Often new search engine optimization (SEO) projects begin with the selection of optimum keywords connected to the focus of the business or website. In spite of what some SEO companies may tell you, the most popular phrases can often be detrimental to your site's SEO success.

A much better tactic is to look into the search tail, in other words, the less popular, less competitive queries may offer better results. Although search tail phrases bring less traffic, better rankings can be achieved in search engine results by using them.

More specific queries can be useful in determining consumer trends. Data from a recent Hitwise report shows that two word phrases appear to be used by more users in the United States to locate the website or page they were looking for.
