Web Utilities for the Web Developer

By HTMLGoodies Staff

As a Web developer, I rely on certain web and HTML utilities to assist me with my daily chores. The following tools are the best of the lot, and if you're a developer, you may find them quite useful as well.

  • HTML Color Picker - If you're trying to find the right color for web content the free HTML Color Picker tool is what you need. It lets you select any color you see on my monitor by using an eyedropper tool.
  • MultiRes - Developers often spend a lot of time trying to make sure that their pages display properly under all screen resolutions. The free MultiRes utility stays in your Windows system tray and displays all of the available resolutions for your monitor from 640x480 and up.
  • PixelRuler - The free PixelRuler tool displays an onscreen ruler that you can move anywhere and position horizontally or vertically, and enables you to measure a block of text, image or other web content.
  • Plug-Ins - Browser plug-ins can also be useful for web development. The Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar displays a panel at the bottom of the IE window showing you all the tags and styles for your HTML content. For Firefox, a plug-in called Firebug shows you the HTML and CSS tags on your page and enables you to modify them then and there.
