What Is The Perfect CMS for Web Development?

Jan 16, 2012

Web development is a constantly evolving practice–development software is always getting enhanced, standards are always being updated, and content management systems (CMSs) are always improving. It’s hard for a developer to keep up–so which is the perfect CMS for web development?

Some developers would say that it’s impossible to give a blanket statement about which is the “perfect” CMS–because determining the best CMS would require the knowledge of the specific project that the developer is working on. For instance, an e-learning site would have different requirements than an e-commerce site, so Moodle would be more appropriate than Joomla! for that project.

Drupal would be the best CMS if the ability to pump out turnkey, interactive websites is a priority, but if the learning curve is a serious issue for the project, Joomla! or WordPress may be a better choice. The amount of flexibility that is required by the project is also a consideration. Extensibility and flexibility are major features for Joomla! and Drupal, but may not be an issue for developers without specific needs that core CMS features do not already provide.
