Mozilla last week published a “State of Mozilla” report which detailed its plans for the future. Along with Firefox for Android, the company will soon launch what it calls an “Open Web App ecosystem”, otherwise known as a platform-independent app store.
Mozilla discussed the concept in the report, stating that “The current app model has traits that threaten some of the characteristics that have made the Web so vibrant a platform, particularly in the mobile space.”
The Open Web App store they envision will host web apps that are based on HTML5, CSS and JavaScript, along with other open web standards that are implemented in modern web browsers. These apps will be distributed across all modern browsers, including those on mobile devices.
