Symbian Uses HTML, CSS and JavaScript for Web App Development

Symbian spurred the interest of web developers in June with the release of its new web application development tools for the Symbian 3 mobile platform. These tools enable developers to leverage their current CSS, HTML and JavaScript skills when building mobile applications.

The Symbian tools, which are an extension of the Eclipse JavaScript Debug Toolkit project, add mobile application functionality to allow developers to move their applications from the desktop to mobile devices. Mobile features include application previewing, debugging, project creation and mobile API support.

The inclusion of JavaScript APIs enables developers to create more robust applications, including applications with access to contacts, a GPS, a camera, an accelerometer and other new features. The Symbian development tools are currently supported on the Linux, Mac OS X and Windows operating systems.
