Of course WebRTC isn’t new but it is stable and provides the developer with access to the user’s video camera and audio and set up browser-to-browser channels giving you more access to the native hardware from JavaScript. WebRTC on the other hand also gives the developer access to the users video camera, via a script and isnt enable by default and requires permission to use the camera. So one might say that the more likely it is that WebRTC is present, the more likely it is that WebRTC apps will be used, become popular, and replace proprietary solutions such as Skype.
