Is HTML5 Really Changing the Way the Web is Developed?

Jun 21, 2011

There are many aspects of HTML5 that appeal to developers, and much debate is still ongoing concerning the language’s maturity and current of readiness. The real question is, has it affected the way that the web is designed and developed?

One expert, Remy Sharp, feels that the future is going to be filled with JavaScript-enabled applications that blur the line between web and desktop apps, out of the confines of the web browser. Sharp also believes we will see apps which do not require an internet connection.

As more APIs and JavaScript libraries become available, the idea that HTML5 and JavaScript are languages that must live in a web browser becomes antiquated. The browser will be part of the invisible landscape that makes up the internet.
