Google Announces Major Enhancements to Chrome Web App Development

After Google most recent launch of the first batch of Android apps for Chrome on the desktop, Google has continued to demonstrate their commitment to the convergence of two operating systems by announcing enhancements for app developers who are creating Android apps using Chrome. Historically, Android apps have run via the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) web browser that comes as standard on all Android handsets, however since the arrival of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, rendering has been through Chrome, which gives greater opportunity for customization and a more native look. With Googles enhancement to their Chrome apps for mobile, and the Apache Cordova based project which launched earlier this year and developed to provide wrappers for web apps, the new APIs cover Google Cloud messaging, rich notifications and identity support.
