Firefox Extension for Web Development: Dummy Lipsum

Today’s special: webmaster tools for dummies…er, dummy tools for webmasters. This add-on leaves nothing to the imagination, literally.

At some point, you have likely experienced the challenge of building and testing a new site without having any real content to use. Hard to see just how the layout will perform with only your lame attempt of “blah, blah, blah” text.

The Dummy Lipsum extension quickly and conveniently generates lorem ipsum or filler text. The options let you choose how much copy you want to generate. Select bytes, words, or paragraphs and quantity thereof, then click the “Generate” button. Viola! A boatload of Latin. (By the way, lorem ipsum is Latin for “blah, blah, blah”.)

Check the “Show HTML tags” box if you want your text wrapped in <P> tags. Click the “Copy to clipboard” button and paste this text into your Web page content area.

When the cursor is in a text form field, a context menu option (right click, “Insert Dummy Lipsum”) is available to automatically fill in this field with dummy text.

Summary

I think that you’ll be surprise how handy is this Firefox dummy tool for dummies, when you remember about it. (Shoutout to developer Sogame.)

…Hmmm, this is a pretty short article, huh. No worries.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Fusce ornare cursus sapien sagittis tincidunt. Donec tempor volutpat magna vel interdum. Sed aliquam sagittis augue sed porttitor. Ut tincidunt lectus id lectus adipiscing sodales. Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique senectus et netus et malesuada fames.

That seems about right. Thanks Dummy Lipsum!
