Is Joomla! a Good CMS for Small Businesses?

May 20, 2011

When a small business is also a new business, and the task of setting up a website comes up, business owners have many choices available for content management. Joomla! is a good choice for small businesses, as it is very extensible and offers many advantages over other CMS’s.

The WordPress CMS is great for blogging and news sites, but as a powerful e-commerce platform, it leaves a lot to be desired. Joomla!, on the other hand, can easily be used to create a functioning online marketplace, with full order management, customer data, order processing and more, by using paid and free extensions and templates.

To extend the basic functionality of Joomla!, you can install the VirtueMart extension and begin the installation of your professional e-commerce web store. If you need to capture and manage leads, i.e. customer relationship management (CRM), you can install the vTiger CRM extension. There are plenty of extensions available for practically any business function you can think of, both paid and free. Extensibility is an important aspect of any CMS that you select for your website.
