HTML 5 Continues To Draw the Interest of Web Developers

While many topics continue to draw the interest of web developers, HTML 5 remains at the top of the list. Besides being an upgrade to the HTML 4.01 specification, it aims to reduce the need for proprietary web technologies.

Although it has yet to become a formal specification, and may be years away from that ever happening, most web browsers are starting to support many of the upcoming spec’s features, including video and audio embedding without the use of Flash. HTML 5 also enables the development of Rich Internet Applications (RIA) using new Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) with drag-and-drop functionality.

Even as Adobe and Apple continue to debate each of their positions on the use of HTML 5 to supplant the use of the Flash Player, more and more companies are stepping up to support HTML 5. Google has recently thrown its weight behind the spec, though its Android 2.2 operating system will likely continue to support Flash.
