The annual Zeitgeist Report from Google looks at how the world searched the internet over the past year. This year’s report visualizes that data using a combination of HTML5 and JavaScript.
By using the year’s popular search terms, along with other resources such as Google Insights for Search and Google Trends, Google is able to show what the collective mind has been thinking about.
The impressive part of their report isn’t the data–which is predictable and ordinary, but rather the way they are showcasing it. Using a JavaScript framework called Dojo along with HTML5, Google has provided maps, bar charts and timelines. It’s definitely worth checking out as an example of what is possible using the building blocks of the web.
