An open source foundation will soon be taking over the Flex Software Developer’s Kit (SDK) from Adobe. The Flex SDK enables developers to create applications for the Flash runtime by using XML and code created in ActionScript.
Adobe recently announced that it would be discontinuing development on is Flash Mobile player, and instead would be focusing on HTML5, as they believe that it is the “best technology for enterprise application development.”
Flex developers did not take kindly to the news, and as Erich Erich Cervantez, a senior Flex developer for a health club chain stated, “It feels as though Adobe is completely abandoning Flex, and ultimately Flash … My company has invested millions into committing to Flex for our enterprise applications and now I don’t know what to tell them.”
