Mobile Development Tools a Prime Focus for Adobe

Adobe isn’t abandoning the Flash Platform, rather, it is transforming it into a mobile development platform. After adding Android support to its Flash Builder tool in April, Adobe this week announced that its development platform allows the creation of apps for desktops, smartphones and tablets.

Apps created with Flash Builder 4.5 and Flex 4.5 have shown up in the Apple App Store, Android Market and BlackBerry App World, and today’s announcement only solidifies Adobe’s position in the mobile development industry.

Developers are turning to Adobe’s tools to save time and increase productivity. Mobile developer Sean Carey of HD Interactive, discussed his experience using Flash Builder, stating that “Flash Builder 4.5 allowed us to develop our Mr. Mixit and Pyramix apps and use the same code base to quickly and easily deploy them to multiple platforms. To create an app natively for one platform would have taken at least three times the amount of time—and then we would have had to start from scratch all over again for a native app on the next platform.”
