Can Google Win the Battle for Mobile Web Domination?

Obviously there is one feature that Google apps will never have over other mobile apps, namely the native functionality that is available in apps that are created for iOS, Blackberry, Windows Phone and Android. If Google plans to dominate the mobile world, it will have to live up to user expectations.

The high quality of apps created with native functionality is something Google will have to keep up with, but Google may be able to provide similar functionality using web apps, which are essentially websites that act and appear like traditional mobile applications. The typical restraints that limit web app development may be the hurdle that Google must pass in order to be successful in this endeavor.
