Apple Previews iPhone OS 4, Software Development Kit

Today Apple previewed its iPhone OS 4 software, and released a Software Development Kit (SDK) to developers through its iPhone Developer Program. The new API features more than 1500 new APIs and 100 new features that will soon be coming to an iPhone or iPod Touch near you.


Key features in this release include multitasking for third party applications, folders for organization, improved email, enhanced enterprise support, iAd mobile advertising support, which displays full screen video and interactive ad content, and ibooks.


This release also includes a preview of Game Center, a tool when enables device owners to play a game, start a multi-player game and track scores on a leader board. Apple announced that applications created using GameKit APIs will work with Game Center, which they billed as their new “new social gaming network available to iPhone and iPod touch users later this year.”
