Appcelerator Acquires Particle Code To Enhance HTML5 Mobile Development

Oct 25, 2011

This week Appcelerator announced the acquisition of Particle Code, a mobile gaming and HTML5 development platform. By including features from Particle Code within its Titanium development platform, Appcelerator will be able to provide more services for HTML5 mobile developers.

The Titanium development platform already allows the creation of Android and iOS apps and supports HTML5 mobile functionality. The new features from Particle Code will be added to Titanium in the latter half of 2012. As the vice president of marketing at Appcelerator, Scott Schwarzhoff, put it, “Additional gaming application development capabilities come with the acquisition, due to the nature of Particle Code’s technology, but our focus is on unifying the native application development and the HTML5 mobile Web development.”

The CEO of Appcelerator, Jeff Haynie, also commented about the acquisition, stating that “As fragmentation among proprietary mobile vendors increases, Appcelerator offers an open-source, integrated mobile platform as a better approach for unifying cross-platform native and HTML5 mobile Web development.”
