2011: Predictions for Web Developers

2010 was good for web developers, with consumer apps continuing to expand and new web app shops opening right up through December. In this article we’ll look at 10 things that 2011 will hold for the world of web development.


All media form factors need to be addressed by developers. Mobile, tablet and desktop PCs are all valid media form factors that developers will have to take into account when developing websites and web applications.


New cross-platform mobile development tools will arise this year with all the mobile growth that has been occurring. In the coming year developers will see a new group of versatile and hardy tools that will allow app development for multiple operating systems.


Cloud-based, collaborative web development tools will be more popular and will enable developers to work smarter and faster. Developers who create consumer apps will need to focus on security-centric areas such as data encryption, user privacy controls and more.
