This week Microsoft released a beta version of its WebMatrix 2.0. WebMatrix is a web development tool suite that includes IIS Web Server Express, SQL Server Compact Edition and a special version of ASP.NET which allows developers to embed Visual Basic and C# within HTML code.

As Microsoft describes it, WebMatrix is "a brand new web development tool from Microsoft that includes everything you need for website development. Start from open source web applications, built-in web templates or just start writing code yourself. It’s all-inclusive, simple and best of all free."

Interested developers can download the WebMatrix 2.0 beta directly from the WebMatrix home page. This release includes a streamlined configuration process, adds IntelliSense support for .Net, PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and includes an integrated NuGet Package Manager.
