Using Metadata-based Platforms for Mobile Development

Feb 23, 2011

The use of mobile devices in the workplace is gaining acceptance and requires the ability to securely access data and communicate with central systems with speed and efficiency. The use of metadata-based platforms for mobile development will enable mobile developers to meet the challenge.

Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 7 aims to be a leader in the mobile marketplace, with serious competition from Google and Apple, and no clear winner in sight. As the director of Windows Phone 7 at Microsoft recently stated at the Mobile App World event, “there are so many choices, it’s almost overwhelming. It’s the paradox of choice.”

With a market that’s shifting from towards enterprise users, along with the fragmentation of available platforms, there are issues for developers who are trying to guess the future and foretell which platform or device will be the winner in the end. Metadata-based platforms enable the developer to use a platform-agnostic development platform, bypassing the need to know the future.
