Two-Thirds of US Adults Get News from Social Media

A new report from Pew has found that 67 percent of US adults get some of their news from social media and 20 percent “often” do so. That’s a modest increase from May 2016, when 62 percent of Americans over the age of 18 were getting news from social media and 18 percent were doing so often.

Drilling down into the data, Pew found that much of the increase in social media news consumption came from increases among users who were “older, less educated and non-white.” And different social media platforms had very different news consumption numbers: 75 percent of Twitter users get news from the platform, compared to 68 percent for Facebook, 32 percent for YouTube and 29 percent for SnapChat.
