The problem that Adobe faced with its Flash Player for Mobile wasn’t that screaming fast mobile Flash content wasn’t possible, it was that porting the masses of old legacy content over to effectively function on mobile devices just wasn’t going to happen.
All of the old Flash apps and movies would, if they worked at all, not work properly on mobile devices–they would be slow, controls wouldn’t work, and they would always be viewed as outdated and archaic. With literally millions of such outdated Flash files in existence on the web, such a monumental task was something that Adobe could not find a solution for–so instead they focused on the technology that Apple has been banking on–HTML5.
