Social Media for SEO: Why You Should Care

Apr 7, 2011

There are many justifications made about why a company is not using social media in conjunction with their website or application. The bottom line is that if you are not using social media, you are missing out on a potentially powerful SEO tool.

By using social media, you open a channel for personal, individual communication between your business and your customers. Getting to know your customers on a more personal level allows you to build a relationship, and with it, a sense of commitment and community for your business.

Search engines now include listings from social media websites in their search results, and links from Twitter and other social networks are considered when determining search results rankings. If users of social networks are discussing your business or website, especially if those users are considered “authority figures” in the area of your business, it can seriously affect those search engine rankings.
