Search Engine Optimization Voodoo for Web Developers

Sep 8, 2010

With more than 15 billion web pages online, search engine optimization (SEO) is getting trickier every day. Certain SEO companies are expert at what some call the dark side of SEO, voodoo optimization.

SEO strategist Nicholas Carroll wrote the SEO entry for the 2010 Encyclopedia of Library and Information Sciences. She says the domain name you choose is half of the game–you should have the domain in hand, hopefully with keywords within that domain, before you even before you name your product or service.

Website owners and online businesses need to be adaptable with their product or service, especially if a given domain name is not available. If that’s the case, it’s time to consider renaming your offering. The name should be original, and you should avoid using a name that has other firm’s calling card all over it.
