Today Google Labs announced a new developer tool called Browser Size which makes it easier to understand how everyone sees their websites.
The URL shorterning service, which Google posted about on their Official Blog on Monday, was designed with the premise that “people who use the Google Toolbar and FeedBurner will benefit from a shortener that is easily accessible — making it faster and easier to share, post and email links…Currently, Google URL Shortener is only available from the Google Toolbar and FeedBurner. If the service proves useful, we may eventually make it available for a wider audience in the future.”
Google’s URL shortening service isn’t unique–there are plenty of other such services such as TinyURL and other similar services, but together with Google Analytics, Google Adwords, Google Alerts, the Google Chrome web browser, Google Translate, etc. it adds to the Google franchise of website tools that make Google a presence that developers can’t afford to ignore.
