New CSS Web Publishing Prototype Announced by Adobe

May 11, 2011

Adobe this week announced a prototype browser that enables web developers to test the company’s formatting technology, which has just been proposed. CSS Regions, as it is called, enables developers to create multi-column layouts and other designs previously used in the publishing industry.

Those in the publishing world will recognize the technology, but web developers have had to make do with basic web design tools, which have until recently relied on tables for layout. Adobe’s tool enables developers to use CSS to place text in various polygonal shapes, and flow text around object.

Not only can developers utilize publishing layouts, they can create web pages that are dynamic, and adjust automatically as people resize browser windows or rotate tables, changing the layout from landscape to portrait orientation on the fly.
