MSIE 9 to Support HTML5 Elements, Vector Graphics and CSS Standards

Mar 4, 2010

Microsoft is predicted to discuss the upcoming features of MSIE 9 at its upcoming MIX 2010 developer conference in Las Vegas. Speculators expect them to announce support for HTML5 elements, vector graphics and CSS standards.

Microsoft MSIE 8 was able to bring the browser to the standards of others with support for CSS 2.1 and several HTML elements, but the progress seemed to stop there. At the company’s most recent developer event, PDC09, Steven Sinofsky, president of its Windows division, stated that MSIE 9 would provide a “more modern” browser experience, with a focus on the coming performance enhancements, JavaScript rendering and support for existing web standards, HTML 5 and CSS 3.

With companies such as Google grumbling about the use of MSIE, referring to it as a “non-modern” browser in regards to web standards, and releasing a Chrome Frame plug-in which enables MSIE7 and 8 browsers to run advanced web apps, its time for Microsoft to get up to speed.
